You heard right folks! The saga continues with the alliance/merger between Jeff Jarrett’s Global Force Wrestling (GFW) and Ed Nordholm’s Impact Wrestling. I have received breaking news a few hours ago through multiple media sources saying Impact Wrestling is planning to be re-branded officially as “Global Force Wrestling” moving forward.
This Sunday’s Slammiversary pay-per-view is going to be the official “relaunch” of the company. GFW will continue to use the “Impact” name for their weekly television series on POP TV.
“We’re a global brand,” Jarrett said of the re-branding. “We have partnerships in Mexico, Japan, other places. Collectively coming together, we’ve combined forces and basically the rebrand final touches happen (on Sunday) at ‘Slammiversary.'”
Impact Wrestling President & Anthem C.E.O. Ed Nordholm also released a statement to the Tennessean:
“When Anthem got involved we saw a rare opportunity to get involved with an asset that already had global distribution,” Nordholm said. “It’s a 3,500-hour library, broadcast in 120 countries, existing distribution contracts in India, Africa and now the United Kingdom. The timeline to take a ground zero promotion to that kind of penetration was 15 years. The work now is to fix some things.”
To follow up on his comments, Nordholm says the change is being done for marketing reasons to appease present and future investors, stating the former acronym T-N-A had did carry a sexual overtone with it that was deemed a turn off to many corporations that were hesitant on investing sponsors into the organization.
