PWP Owner Jay Alletto understands why fans think The Divas Revolution has failed, but he also believes that it will take the anti-diva to save it.
The debate has been on-going throughout social media, live on Raw & on various message boards across the Internet. Whether you like it or not, learn to love it because it’s the hottest thing going today.
I’m talking about The Divas Revolution.
The “revolution” kicked off to a hot-start, but has grown stale with the same formula of tag team matches between the 6 divas involved. We also saw the WWE Divas Championship put on the back-burner in the early stages, which was a perplexing booking decision. Nonetheless, with all the ongoing discussion, the angle is picking up momentum.
A highly posed question has been: who started The Divas Revolution? You’ll get a different answer depending on who you ask. But since the division is starting to move away from the simplicity that has made the women’s wrestling action in NXT so successful, it’s time for WWE to move it in a different direction.
I’m talking about The Anti-Divas Revolution.
Paige has quietly been on a losing streak in recent weeks, taking consistent pin-fall & submission loses to Team BAD. Unless you aren’t paying attention, you can see the foreshadowing for a Paige heel turn on her PCB teammates Becky Lynch & Charlotte, coming from a mile away. The frustration shown by Paige in recent weeks has been the definition of a slow build.
There’s no doubt that Paige believes that she is the one who started The Divas Revolution. She was the first NXT Women’s Champion & never lost the highly coveted title that she held for 308 days. She set the bar high with technically sound matches against the likes of Natalya, Emma & Summer Rae, paving the way for the success of Sasha Banks, Charlotte, Bayley & Becky Lynch.
Before NXT garnered the popularity that it has today, Paige competed in FCW and was known as The Anti-Diva. She doesn’t have the stereotypical supermodel look (although she is gorgeous) that WWE has always wanted for their Divas. She marches to the beat of her own drum & brings a different attitude to the division than any of the other girls have.
After FCW was changed into NXT, The Anti-Diva persona basically fizzled out. She turned babyface, debuted on the main roster the night after WrestleMania 30 & has been on-fire ever since. Even when she turned heel on AJ Lee (another Diva fans believe is responsible for this revolution), she still never embraced the Anti-Diva character.
I think that’s all about to change.
There are a couple of scenarios that I can see playing out in the near future, both involving Charlotte & her pursuit of the WWE Divas Championship.
First of all, it’s very possible that Charlotte becomes the new WWE Divas Champion at Night of Champions this coming Sunday. If this takes place, it will only be a matter of time before Paige (and possibly even Becky) turns on Charlotte so she can be the next in line for a WWE Divas Championship match. If you didn’t know, Paige was actually involved in an Anti-Diva tag team with Sofia Cortez (aka Ivelisse Velez) in FCW before the switch to NXT. Becky Lynch has that punk rock vibe to her that would blend nicely as a heel sidekick for Paige.
Another possible scenario can see Paige COST Charlotte the WWE Divas Championship at Night of Champions, which will be the birth of a new attitude for Paige and the unleashing of The Anti-Diva. This would allow Nikki to retain the championship & move onto her next defense (Sasha?) and allow a new hot feud to transpire between Paige & Charlotte.
It will all lead to Paige regaining the WWE Divas Championship as the top heel in the Divas Division. We’ve all see an overload of The Bella Twins (even though I am a fan) & it would be nice to see a different heel on top. Plus, it’s always fun when a championship changes hands every once in a while, right?
The unleashing of The Anti-Divas Revolution would move this angle in a direction that a majority of the WWE Universe wouldn’t see coming & would be a huge boost for the career of Paige.
Regardless of how it goes down, there’s no doubt that this angle needs something hot & fresh to take place…and The Anti-Diva Paige should be the one to make it happen.
I think taking the Anti Diva aspect of it and putting it into the group of PCB would serve as a good method of keeping up the three way feud if WWE decides to continue it like that.
Make the factions represent differing aspects of the division: Bellas represent the Total Divas hollywood style, PCB can represent the “last stronghold” for legitimate women’s wrestling (Anti Divas but in a way that makes them babyfaces because people want to cheer for them) and BAD can be the Wild Card team: The ones who are overshadowed but it is dangerous to do so as they are a good mix of both aspects
At this point, whatever needs to happen to break up the teams and let these women shine in their own way not part of a group is what I would like to see happen. I get the feeling at first that you needed to put these teams together to work a bit and show the fans what the girls are about. But it’s been way too long and each girl isn’t giving much time in their own spotlight to show much. Just think Becky Lynch is the one who got that pinfall at Summerslam, and still is in the background of Team PCB. I think she will be for a bit because Sasha will get her time soon enough and Charlotte is going to get that Divas title in the near future. But overall, until we do see the groups break apart, it’s going to be the same thing over and over again.
I don’t think they’ll break up all of the groups right away, but I see PCB disbanding first. They only have so many segments where the Divas can be featured & the stables allow more air time for all of the girls.
However, I don’t think it’s in the plans to keep all the stables together for much longer. Stables are meant to be broken, and it will happen soon enough.
Well if the groups had some point to them and some meaning behind them, it’s fine. But right now, they’re just thrown together to be thrown together. If you break up PCB, you might as well break up Team Bad.
Not necessarily. Why can’t there be one group of girls? The point to them was to give multiple divas exposure on the shows for a period of time.
When you have time for one or two divas matches, guess what? Chances are only 5 or so divas will get airtime. When you have three groups of 3, you have nine divas getting exposure and gives you time to introduce the girls from NXT.
It made sense, but it’s been a few months and they need to branch some of them out.
If you’re keeping the groups, you need some meaning behind it. For example, Becky Lynch picks up the win at Summerslam for her team, and she’s not even mentioned much out there. Sasha Banks clearly is going to rise on her own, so there’s no need to keep her with Team Bad, if anything have Naomi and Tamina turn on her to give her that face role that everyone wants to get behind for her. Obviously she’s the one that fans want to see doing something more than beating Paige.
I’d love to see this happen.
I’d love to see Paige cost Charlotte the championship at Night of Champions, I think a rivalry between the two would be fantastic.
