5 Things We Learned From Smackdown Live (3/5/19)

PWP Nation’s Caden Moran details five things we learned from the March 5th, 2019 edition of Smackdown Live

The road to Wrestlemania continued last night during the March 5th edition of Smackdown Live, and as always, it was a fun show.

With Fastlane this Sunday, WWE is picking up the pace and continue to make things very interesting. We saw a new babyface being born in front go our eyes, a tag team division continuing to flourish, and a brand new champion.

Here are five things we learned from Smackdown Live last night.

#5 – Smackdown’s tag team division is more than fun

As Monday Night RAW’s tag team division continues to get better and more attention, Smackdown Live’s tag team division just continues to impress.

The blue brand’s tag team division has always been more interesting and fun to watch. Last night showed us how truly fun their division really is. We say Aleister Black and Ricochet team up once again to defeated The Bar. After that, we saw the teams of Rusev and Shinsuke Nakamura and The Hardy Boyz get involved to show Smackdown Live’s strength.

Smackdown Live in general is full of fun action, and the tag team division defines that. Expect the tag team scene on Smackdown Live to continue to get better and improve going into Wrestlemania.

#4 – Mandy Rose is going places

Mandy Rose has always been looked at as someone who could be a future Women’s Champion in WWE. Now, it appears the build up to that moment is officially beginning.

Before she takes on Asuka for the Smackdown Women’s Championship this Sunday at Fastlane, Rose defeated Naomi in a surprisingly fast match. Rose has now defeated Asuka and Naomi, a former champion herself, in a matter of just a few weeks. Considering she is next in line for a title match, Mandy Rose can only get better and go higher from here.

Whether or not she becomes champion at Fastlane, Mandy Rose is starting to open up a lot of eyes. Her moment will come and I expect it to be sooner rather than later.

#3 – Kevin Owens works as a babyface

We all knew Kevin Owens would make a great babyface, but the fact that it is actually happening is both weird and awesome at the same time.

It is such a refreshing change to see Owens acting like the fan favorite. He is a believable babyface, and it is exactly what WWE needs considering they lack believable good guys. Owens is poised for big things this year, and if they keep him going the way he is going, there is no telling what he can accomplish with his character change.

Owens is set to face Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship at Fastlane, and much like Mandy Rose, whether he wins or loses doesn’t matter. Owens will have another moment on top soon.

#2 – Samoa Joe is the right choice

Samoa Joe has finally won his first main roster championship. Samoa Joe is the new United States Champion.

This is a long overdue moment for Joe. It is also what the mid card on Smackdown Live needs. For the past number of months, the United States title has been a joke and treated as such. However, with a guy like Samoa Joe holding the belt, a guy who can do anything in the ring and destroy you on the mic, the blue and red belt is in good hands.

Hopefully we see a lot more of the United States Championship and hopefully we see it being defended consistently. Samoa Joe is definitely the guy to make that happen.

#1 – The state of WWE is strange

As much as WWE is in a good state at the moment, it is still a strange environment. There are NXT guys jumping around on both rosters, and there is also a strange storyline involving two Smackdown stars competing on both brands.

Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair are still technically Smackdown Live stars, but their main purpose to fighting for the RAW Women’s Championship. Yet, they are still showcased for the main event of Smackdown Live. I’m not complaining in any way, but it just a strange story and climate around all of it.

The feud is good, the story is better. However, the two Smackdown stars competing for the RAW Women’s Championship while still main eventing Smackdown Live is just strange in my eyes.

With Fastlane this Sunday and with Wrestlemania just around the corner, things are starting to heat up. I’m looking forward to the show this Sunday. Hopefully you are too.
