PWP Nation’s Caden Moran details six things we learned from the January 28th edition of Monday Night RAW
The January 28th edition of Monday Night RAW was a highly intriguing episode. Considering it was the post-Royal Rumble episode, there was sure to be fireworks throughout the night. It appears that Monday Nights are becoming watchable again and last night proved that once more. We learned quite a bit heading into the Wrestlemania season, and these are six of the most important things that we learned.
#6 – Three-Person Commentary Teams Will Never Work
Monday Night RAW’s commentary is becoming unbearable. When Renee Young was announced as the newest commentator for the red brand, I was excited. Renee brought something fresh and I thought since she was not named Booker T or Johnathan Coachman, we would get quality announcing from all three members. That has not been the case.
The constant bickering between Young and Corey Graves, who is nowhere near as good as he used to be, is becoming an issue. It is 2019 and for some reason, we still have the heel commentator causing issues with another member and taking everything away from the action in the ring.
Three-person commentary teams have proven time and time again that they will never work, no matter who the third person is.
#5 – Elias is Directionless
Man, how did they mess this up? Elias is clearly one of WWE’s most popular acts and once he turned babyface late last year, his popularity skyrocketed even more. Now, only a few months later, Elias is once again a heel.
To be fair, Elias does work better as a heel. However, I am seriously questioning the direction, or lack of, for “The Drifter”. Elias has never had a solid line of direction, and after last night’s episode of RAW, it is obvious that the WWE have no idea what to do with the guy.
I have always been a strong supporter of Elias. I want to see him do big things, and I believe that he still can. However, there needs to be some solid direction before he can truly define who Elias exactly is.
#4 – Seth Rollins Has All the Momentum Against Brock Lesnar
Seth Rollins is red hot right now, and there is no going back. As Seth Rollins has his eyes set on Brock Lesnar and the WWE Universal Championship, “The Kingslayer” has all the momentum going in Wrestlemania.
Although Seth Rollins was the victim of six F-5’s last night, it just continues to help Rollins. Obviously, Brock Lesnar is sure to be the favorite going into Wrestlemania, but, if WWE continues to book Seth the way he has been, it will sure lead to a shock in April.
Many will argue that Seth Rollins is so over that he does not need to be decimated by Brock. However, if Seth continues to be shown as the valiant underdog as he was last night, it will continue to build momentum and support for the former WWE champion.
#3 – Braun Strowman is a Lost Cause
I have soured on Braun Strowman hard in the last few months. The man who was formerly the best thing going in all of WWE is now, in my eyes, a lost cause. Considering he is still locked in a meaningless feud with Baron Corbin and Drew McIntyre, it is not hard to see why.
All of Braun Strowman’s momentum has been killed ever since Crown Jewel in November of last year. If Braun is continued to be put in meaningless matches with the same two men week in and week out, it will take a very long time to recover.
I am not sure what is in store for Braun Strowman at Wrestlemania, but from the looks of it right now, I would not expect him to be doing anything meaningful. Shame.
#2 – Finn Balor Can Make the Mid-Card Mean Something
We saw a different side of Finn Balor last night. After being defeated by Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble event, Finn was obviously not himself. The lack of smiles and non-animated entrance showed a new side of Finn Balor. After saying he made Brock Lesnar believe, a new door opened for the leader of “Balor Club”. That doors name is Bobby Lashley.
As the Intercontinental champion confronted Finn Balor, it was made very clear about what is next. Bobby Lashley went on to beat down the first ever Universal champion and “The All-Mighty” stood tall with his title held high.
Finn Balor has done such an incredible job making all of us believe, that I now believe the mid-card can mean something with him at the top of it. If Finn Balor is to be Bobby Lashley’s next challenger, the Intercontinental Championship scene is sure to be entertaining once again.
#1 – Becky Lynch vs Ronda Rousey Will Main Event Wrestlemania
Becky Lynch vs Ronda Rousey was made official for Wrestlemania last night. After a terrible opening to the segment by Rousey, Becky Lynch made her emergence on RAW and let the world know that she is coming for Ronda in April. Even though it is not official, it was made clear on what match should main event Wrestlemania.
After a lethal back and forth from Lynch and Rousey, who cut the best promo of her entire career, it was made clear that this is your Wrestlemania main event. Never have the women main evented the biggest show in sports entertainment, but after everything that has happened over the last few months between both women, they absolutely deserve that spotlight.
There is no other match that deserves to be the main event. If WWE refuses to put Becky Lynch vs Ronda Rousey on last, then they completely messed it up. However, I have faith that WWE will do the right thing.
Monday Night RAW has turned a corner and Wrestlemania season is now here. It is sure to be a fun couple of months and I cannot wait.
