#AskPWP Mailbag: Edition #1 – Triple H’s New Stable, Vince McMahon, Shinsuke Nakamura & More

PWP Nation’s Editor-in-Chief Eron Ramadanov fields questions from PWP Nation Twitter followers and goes in-depth on a potential new stable headed by Triple H, why Vince McMahon doesn’t get more credit and so much more!

On social media, especially in the world of professional wrestling, discussion is key. On a weekly basis, on our Twitter account (@PWPNation), we conduct an #AskPWP segment, which allows you to ask the PWP Nation staff anything you want and gives us the chance to interact with you and talk about professional wrestling.

But, one thing I’ve found is that Twitter’s character limit on tweets always cuts the conversation short. There are countless questions during our Q&A segments where I want to go more in-depth and open up the discussion for both sides. Well, in my infinite wisdom, every #AskPWP I conduct, I will then convert it into editorial form. This way, I can give you a detailed and precise answer on whatever question you may have.

So, on Thursday afternoon, I sent out this tweet:

After sending that tweet, I received several questions and here are the best of the best. Let’s begin:

Question #1:

Really interesting question, which is why I picked it out. In the last few days, since Monday Night Raw, a lot of people in the wrestling community have been wondering if Triple H is in the process of forming a new stable with Kevin Owens, Samoa Joe and others. I believe it’s definitely a possibility.

Triple H obviously has a history with stables (DX, Evolution, The Authority) and cultivating a new one would be in the best interest for everyone involved. In WWE today, a lot of talented, world-class performers get lost in the shuffle and some never recover (i.e. Dolph Ziggler).

Personally, an Evolution 2.0 stable would be a perfect way to keep Owens and Joe relevant on Monday Night Raw, with the obvious rub from Triple H and if they want, they can throw in another superstar, from NXT or someone who’s already on the Raw roster, maybe someone like Sheamus, Cesaro or Rusev.

How cool would it be to have Kevin Owens, Samoa Joe, Cesaro and Triple H standing at the top of the ramp, with a revamped/remixed Evolution theme song. Yes, expectations would be high for this group considering who’s involved, but I have no doubts they could make it work. So, to answer your question Mr. Mark, yes, I think it’s very possible WWE is moving towards a new Triple H led stable and I’m all for it. Will it happen? Time will tell.

Question #2:

To be completely fair, I think most sensible fans give Vince McMahon a good amount of credit for the good things on WWE television and I would say that for the most part, Vince McMahon still knows what he’s doing. That’s not to say that he may be out-of-touch when it comes to certain demographics of his fanbase, but generally, the WWE product right now has been above average. What more can a fan ask for? I understand hardcore fans want the main roster to look more like NXT, but casual and “once-in-a-while” fans seem to be enjoying the product, so who are we to say that Vince’s product is “bad?”

Now, to be transparent, I have been a critic of Vince’s booking and decision-making over the last few years, but that’s because I’m a “hardcore” fan and my favorite wrestling program is NXT, so I have a slight bias when it comes to the main roster product.

In the end, fans should be appreciative of Vince’s presence, while he still have it. Love him or hate him, he’s still in charge and he does do a lot of great work with Raw and SmackDown LIVE (ex. Braun Strowman, Owens/Jericho, Wyatt Family, etc.) and I think fans, once he’s gone, will look back and realize that they should’ve taken a second to marvel at Vince’s genius when it comes to sports entertainment.

Question #3:

If we’re talking about the WWE Hall of Fame, yes, I believe Umaga will make it in at some-point in time. But, if I were to start a professional wrestling Hall of Fame from scratch, Umaga would not be a part of a legitimate Hall of Fame. WWE defines a Hall of Famer by your relations with the company, which city is hosting the event and if it makes sense logistically or financially.

To me, for someone to be considered a Hall of Famer, two things have to be true: firstly, if I were to write a book on professional wrestling, will I have to mention your name to tell the complete story? For example, I can’t tell the story of wrestling with Hulk Hogan or Bruno Sammartino, whereas I can get away with telling the story of wrestling without Umaga. The other standard I hold is if I have to really think about if [insert wrestler here] is a Hall of Famer, then that automatically disqualifies him. Guys like Shawn Michaels, Harley Race, Ric Flair are no-brainers. However, guys like Umaga or Christian has to be mulled over, which automatically doesn’t make them Hall of Famers.

To be clear, I really like Umaga, Christian and all guys who I don’t consider “Hall of Fame” worthy, but at some point, we have to draw a line in the sand.

Question #4:

This is the big question surrounding Shinsuke Nakamura since the brand split. Personally, I think SmackDown would be a better fit for him. Both brands could definitely use the another main event level talent, but for me, SD Live has a roster that I would love to see Nakamura interact and wrestle with guys like AJ Styles, John Cena, Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt. Those matchups really interest me more than his Raw counterparts, so SmackDown LIVE would be my ideal landing place for Shinsuke Nakamura.

Final Question:

I know I’m going to catch some heat for this, but if I’m starting a promotion from the start, I’d take Roman Reigns. I know that might sound crazy, but personally, I think I can do so much with Roman Reigns as a character and in the ring. Omega is without question a better in-ring performer, but his overall character lacks something for me. In my promotion, Reigns certainly wouldn’t be the same Reigns we see in WWE today. To me, Reigns has a Brock Lesnar type quality, which is the direction I’d go with him.

In the end, this question is very subjective and I have no issues with anyone that would go with Omega, but for me, as much as it pains me to say it, Roman Reigns would be a more flexible and versatile asset to a new promotion.

Well, that’s it for me, folks. Thanks for reading and give me a follow @Eron_PWP.
