Earlier this week, we reported that former WWE World Champion Alberto Del Rio is finished with WWE and will be opting out of his contract later this year. Also, Del Rio, after his suspension, was pulled from all future events, which is an indication that we won’t see him on WWE television again in the near future or possibly ever.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the original plans for Alberto Del Rio was to pair him up with Paul Heyman and give the duo a major main event push. The idea was pitched due to the company feeling like they had [have] a void when it comes to having a major Hispanic star and felt like Del Rio would fill that position. But instead, the company placed Zeb Colter as his manager, which was Vince’s idea.
The report from Meltzer also states that early on in his return, Del Rio was very friendly with WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon. So much so, that they would even travel together and sit with each other on company flights. But once the pairing of Del Rio and Colter didn’t really work, McMahon reportedly moved on to other projects, as he’s known to do and became disinterested with Del Rio’s character, which resulted in him being placed with the League of Nations.
Also, Meltzer’s report states that Del Rio and Executive Vice President of Talent, Creative and Live Events, Paul “Triple H” Levesque don’t exactly get along. Del Rio has always felt a level of discomfort dealing with Triple H, which has also led to Del Rio being unhappy with the company.
