In his latest, PWP Nation’s John “JCD” Dimiceli gives his thoughts on the rise of Becky Lynch and how her slow decline can be fixed to make her a true top star in wrestling
Almost one year ago, Becky Lynch and WWE took a big risk and turned “The Lasskicker” heel.
While on paper it might have seemed like a good idea, the issue was the way the story was being presented.
If you go back to the initial story, Becky was all set to challenge then Smackdown Women’s Champion Carmella at Summerslam. This was coming off the heels of Becky having the entire crowd behind her at Money In The Bank a few months earlier.
Just as the angle between Lynch and Carmella was about to get going, Charlotte Flair returned from injury and instantly got injected into an angle that nobody wanted her near.
That last statement is important because the reaction was there and not a product of the SummerSlam crowd in Brooklyn.
We all know the rest of the story.
Becky was presented as a heel for a few weeks before WWE managed to see that fans, myself included, were not buying her as a villain.
We all know the Nia Jax incident, when Nia legitimately punched Lynch in the face during Smackdown’s invasion of Raw in late 2018, and that’s where this all became a mess…specifically after Becky handpicked Charlotte to be her replacement against Ronda Rousey at Survivor Series.
We all know about the clean tap out at the Royal Rumble to Asuka, and the questionable way of entering the Royal Rumble Match.
We all know about the build to WrestleMania and her back and forth with both Rousey and Flair and the win that followed on the “Grandest Stage of Them All.”
That was great and all but the question always was, “now what?”
Now has come and nearly 3 months after her historic win and what exactly is Becky Lynch?
She’s lame.
Her Twitter is Donald Trump cringe worthy. She has been exposed as one dimensional. She has been verbally bested by Lacey Evans, and “Becky 2 Belts” already weighs one belt less.
“The Man” has indeed gone limp.
Now, what could be the energy source to get her going? One could say the obvious answer is for Ronda Rousey to come back. Another possibility could be the eventual call up of Shayna Baszler or Rhea Ripley. And those would all be great options.
However, there is something else that could work just as nice. What if the option is right in front of us right now? Please allow me to explain.
Lynch’s relationship with WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins has been mentioned frequently on WWE TV as of late. Lynch was even seen escorting Rollins into an ambulance a few weeks ago on Raw. So, what if a beaten Rollins is in the ring with Lynch present as Mr. Money in the Bank Brock Lesnar’s music hits, ready to cash in on a beaten down Rollins.
As Rollins seems destined for defeat as Brock is about to cash in, Lynch steps in front of Lesnar. “The Man” steps up to “The Beast“. The pop that Lynch would receive would be legendary. The chants of “Holy S**t”, “Becky! Becky!” and “This is Awesome!” would be defining.
That is the kickstart “The Man” could use to reclaim her spot as one of the top stars in the sport.
