The scheduled main event for UFC 234 of Robert Whittaker defending his middleweight title in his home country against Kelvin Gastelum is now no longer.
Brett Okamoto on ESPN reported that late last night, Whittaker complained about pain in his abdomen and was admitted to the hospital. It was confirmed that Whittaker suffered from a hernia in his abdomen, which will require surgery today. There was no cause confirmed for the injury, though it is believed it is not weight cutting related. With the injury, Whittaker has pulled out of his scheduled five-round main event against Gastelum, which was going to be Whittaker’s second title defense.
The previously scheduled co-main event of Israel Adesanya vs. Anderson Silva now moves to the main event.
