Get ready for the return of “The Korean Zombie.”
Chan Sung Jung put his MMA career on hold in Oct. 2014 to fulfill his mandatory military service required of South Korean male citizens, however, according to mmafighting.com, the popular South Korean featherweight isn’t done fighting yet.
Jung’s military service comes to an end in mid-October 2016, and according to his team, he is hoping to fight in the UFC again in late 2016 or early 2017. His return could coincide, naturally, with the UFC’s return to South Korea.
“I think this may extend my career,” Jung told MMAFighting.com in 2014, “because it gives me some much needed time to heal I’ll have time to work on my skills without pushing myself to the limit, which is necessary when training for a fight.”
The 29-year-old last fought in Aug. 2013 when he lost to then-featherweight champion Jose Aldo via TKO. That loss snapped a three-fight winning streak, the longest he’s had since 2008. He holds a professional record of 13-4.
