PHistory was made this past Saturday at UFC 205 in Madison Square Garden as Conor McGregor knocked out Eddie Alvarez in the 2nd round to win the UFC Lightweight Championship. This win made McGregor the first double champion in UFC history, as he went into the fight as the UFC Featherweight Champion.
But here’s where it gets interesting.
McGregor is once again angling for a superfight with the undefeated Floyd Mayweather.
And he wants $100,000,000 to do it. Yes, that’s a lot of zeroes. 100 million.
McGregor, who is unquestionably the biggest draw in UFC history, was the immediate topic of discussion on what his next fight will be.
There is a lineup of challengers and contenders who could all make the case to be next in line to fight Conor. But as we have seen in recent months: The Notorious One plays by his own rules.
Mayweather recently stated that McGregor was trying to “piggyback” off of his name & called McGregor an “ant” to his “elephant.”
At a New York City club this past Tuesday night, McGregor took to the DJ booth to address Mayweather:
“Floyd’s not ready for this. Much respect to Floyd. He’s a solid businessman. What he’s been able to do, he’s a fucking animal at what he’s been able to do. But as far as real fighting – true, pure unarmed combat – Floyd don’t want none of this. He does not want none of this. He wants it under boxing rules. He wants a boxing match. He doesn’t want a fight. Give Floyd a shout; tell him I’m coming. Tell him to run around Showtime offices. I want $100 million to fight him under boxing rules because he’s afraid of a real fight.”
Who knows if, when or how this fight will take place, but you can rest assured that if it does, it could be the biggest attraction the fight game has ever seen.
