There has been a lot of talk about CM Punk’s backstage conduct since arriving in AEW. Some examples are:
- Eddie Kingston getting in Punk’s face on an episode of AEW Rampage and saying, “nobody wants you here. They never wanted you here. That whole locker room is afraid to say it, NOT ME. So get out!”
- Chris Jericho reportedly telling Punk to his face that he’s a “cancer to the AEW Locker Room.” after the “All Out” scrum incident.
On the first episode of Harwood’s show, Dax made it a point to explain, from his own perspective, how he had a very different experience working with CM Punk. In the following quote, Dax gives a clear example of CM Punk’s generosity in AEW:
“I remember coming into the backstage area and one of the techs was like ‘Punk wants to see you in his locker room.’ In my head, I like ‘What the hell is this?’ I get there and, let me just say this, his door was always open.
You didn’t even have to knock. He was always there if you needed to talk about wrestling, life or whatever, but, getting back to my story, I walk in and the entire Pinnacle is in there with him. It’s me, Cash, Tully Blanchard, Wardlow, Shawn Spears and Max.
He says to us ‘I know you guys are busy and tied, but, this won’t take long. I just want to say that, at some point, I’ll be in programs with all of you individually, and I wanted to show how appreciative I am to be here, and I’m really excited to work with everyone of you.’
Then, he goes into his bag and hands out these Starbucks gift cards, because someone had told him we all loved coffee, and proceeded to give them to all of us. He then said ‘There’s $500 on each of those.
I know it’s not much, but, I just wanted to show how much I appreciate you all for welcoming me here.’
That really spoke me a lot about his character and as I got to know him more and more, I realized that’s just the way he is, man. That’s the guy I still know today.” – Dax Harwood (via FTR with Dax Harwood)
