On November 12, 2016, UFC makes it’s debut in “The City That Never Sleeps” New York City at Madison Square Garden where we will see the most stacked card in the history of the promotion. The headliner on this history making night is current UFC Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez defending his crown against the reigning UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor. The card is stacked with three championship fights as well as the biggest prelim card that UFC has ever produced.
However, as always, Conor McGregor continues to make headlines with his brash style of lyrical salesmanship; doing whatever he can to sell this fight to as many people as possible. The Irish Born McGregor is slated to make in excess of $60 Million by the time 2016 concludes & it’s not only because of his explosive left fist. His gift of gab will bring the masses to watch him attempt to make history. But first, he had a lot of disparaging comments about his opponent:
“I’m going to retire him on this night,” Conor said. “He has been through a hell of a lot of wars. He has been dropped continuously. I can see it in him. You can see the effects of war on his face. Respect to him, he’s a fighter, nothing but respect. But this will be it for you. You’re going to be badly, badly hurt Eddie, and I mean that. It’s over for you. You will not fight again after this. You will not look the same, you will not think the same and that’s it.”
Eddie Alvarez, a bonafide warrior inside the cage, has had a total of 32 MMA fights in his career amassing a record of 28 wins and only 4 losses. The Undisputed Lightweight Champion defeated the former champion, Rafael Dos Anjos, in stunning fashion to win the gold at UFC Fight Night on July 7, 2016. Coincidentally enough, McGregor was scheduled to face Dos Anjos just 4 months before Alvarez won the title, but RDA pulled out of the fight with an injury. This led to McGregor’s two fight series with Nate Diaz at Welterweight.
Alvarez responded to the challenger:
“The guys he’s picked to fight, these are sub-par guys. Everybody in the lightweight division has beat Nate (Diaz), and he had trouble doing that. The guys he’s faced are nothing of the caliber I am. He will see the night of the fight, ‘Shit, I’ve been going up against fuckin’ opponents that were good style match-ups, and this one is not, and I’m fucked.’”
Conor McGregor, who has had 23 MMA fights in his career with a record of 20 victories and 3 losses (all by way of submission), is ready to become the first dual champion in UFC history, holding two titles in two different weight classes simultaneously. While the UFC Featherweight Champion is currently disputed due to former champion Jose Aldo holding the Interim belt, Conor could undoubtedly make history on November 12:
“I’m going to toy with this man. I’m going to really, truly rearrange his facial structure. His wife and kids won’t ever recognize him again. His friends and the people that he knows will know that he’s not the same man after this contest. He’s going to be in a shock when he sees that. They’re about to see your final hurrah. I paint many pictures. I can fight in many different ways, & I will. I’m going to paint many different pictures in this contest and put on a showcase, toy with this man and end it all. End his whole career. Retire him. It’s over for him. He should be done anyway. He’s taken too much damage. This will be his last amount of damage that he will be able to take.”
Alvarez has gone on record stating that this is going to be the easiest possible fight for him in the Lightweight Division. While Conor has showed some flaws in his recent bouts with Nate Diaz (ground game, gas tank & clinch against the cage), Eddie should not underestimate the power that Conor possesses in his hands. He’s showed that with multiple knockout victories & devastating finishes…and he expects to do the same at UFC 205 on Novemeber 12 LIVE on Pay-Per-View from Madison Square Garden:
“He’s claiming it’s an easier contest…I look forward to when the eyes shift,” McGregor said. “When the eyes roll and the electric shock darts through his whole body and he goes to his knees and he comes up and he’s in survival mode and the panic sets through his whole body and his whole face. That’s something I’m looking forward to, and I will punish him with those words he’s saying.”
