With the recent news of Bobby Roode leaving TNA Impact Wrestling, PWP Nation’s John “JCD” Dimiceli talks about if he can make it in WWE and what his role should be once a part of the company.
Bobby Roode is officially gone from TNA. Shocking news that broke this past Saturday night had Roode gone from the company at the conclusion of their recent tapings. There’s not a no compete clause, so as of this writing, Roode is a 100% free agent. At his age (39), time is definitely ticking to get a chance at the WWE. With the recent signings of Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, Austin Aries and the attempt to sign James Storm, it does show that WWE has definitely softened their stance on talents from TNA.
Roode has reportedly always been a favorite of Triple H, and the time might be right to cash in on that admiration. At this current point in time, Roode and the WWE need each other more than they ever will. Roode is outside of 40, and signing elsewhere (Ring of Honor, New Japan Pro-Wrestling, Global Force Wrestling) would more than likely kill a WWE chance once that contract would expire. WWE would need Roode to help step in to fill the holes left by a roster devastated by injuries over the last 6-9 months.
While most would say Roode would/should head to NXT, you can make a case for Roode going directly to the main roster. Roode is polished enough in the ring, (I know a lot of the guys who went to NXT first are as well) he has an great look for WWE, but most importantly he can pull off the suit wearing corporate made character perfectly. That is exactly the role Roode needs to fill. It is a character WWE has been lacking for ages.
Now here is how I bring Roode in and to be honest, it’s quite simple. We can assume that Roman Reigns will defeat Triple H for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania. We can also assume that Reigns and Triple H will rematch at Extreme Rules in May. Now, with Reigns most likely 2-0 against Triple H, Reigns can move onto a new challenger.
However, just like when The Shield went 2-0 versus Evolution, Triple H will have a “plan B.” Picture a post Extreme Rules Monday Night Raw ending with a Triple H/Reigns confrontation, but at that moment Robert Roode debuts and lays out Reigns. Roode is immediately named Triple H’s corporate chosen one to go after Reigns.
Roode’s promos, him in a suit, his body language will be all he needs to establish the character as an instant threat and contender for the title. While it won’t help get Reigns over, it gives Reigns and WWE a series of fresh matches that the company desperately needs for a period of the year that is usually boring and just overly repetitive.
Not only does Roode feud with Reigns, but an obvious feud with Seth Rollins over the Authority makes sense as well. Roode can feud with Dean Ambrose, John Cena and many others as the hit man of the Authority. Even an eventual showdown with Triple H would be an option.
