The Fight Strength Podcast is a weekly show hosted by Jason Burgos, Senior Editor for MMASucka.com, and Phil Daru, strength and conditioning coach for the prestigious MMA gym American Top Team. On this edition of the show–recorded on August 11–the pair had the pleasure of bringing on one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC’s lightweight division. Lafayette, Louisiana’s own, Dustin Poirier.

During the course of the interview Poirier was able to answer (in his opinion) why a rematch between with Eddie Alvarez never took place. The fight was well-received by fans, and it ended abruptly after an illegal knee by his opponent. Alvarez is now set to coach on the next season of The Ultimate Fighter, opposite Justin Gaethje. Poirier held nothing back on his honest thoughts of why a rematch was passed over.

He also filled the hosts in on his journey into the sport, and eventually making it to the top MMA promotion in the world. Conversation also included his thoughts on the continued research into the dangers of  Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) on athletes that participate in violent sports, and if it ever affects his thinking on the future of his career. Poirier has had 26 professional bouts in a career dating back to 2009.
