PWP Nation’s Caden Moran discusses the reported situation involving The Revival and gives his opinion on what move they should make
For as long as we can remember, tag team wrestling has always felt like such an important part of the business. Tag teams such as The British Bulldogs. The Steiner Brothers, The Dudley Boys, and The Hardy Boyz have all left their mark in the world of tag team professional wrestling. However, in the present, there is a tag team that should be bigger than what they are right now. This tag team is a tribute to the old school tag teams with their look and style of wrestling. But, now, it appears they may not be able to leave the same mark as past tag teams have, at least not in the WWE. This tag team is who we know collectively as, The Revival.
Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder have been one of, if not the most, underutilized tag teams in WWE history. Ever since being called up to WWE’s main roster from NXT during the post-Wrestlemania edition of RAW in 2017, Dawson and Wilder have been in limbo. One of the most promising tag teams in professional wrestling history went from being two time NXT Tag Team Champions to wanting out of their WWE contracts…allegedly.
On January 16th, 2019, news broke around the wrestling community that Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder asked for their release from the WWE immediately after they defeated Lucha House Party on the January 14th edition of RAW. Their has been multiple reports confirming the same thing, but, it appears The Revival may not be going anywhere anytime soon. More reports have begun to surface on when Dawson and Wilder’s contracts expire and it seems that both men are locked into the WWE until at least 2020. So, if The Revival are to leave the WWE, chances are they will not be granted their release and will have to wait until their contracts expire, similar to the situation we saw with former WWE star, Neville, now known as PAC.
Whether these reports are true and The Revival truly want out of their contracts, it looks like it may not happen anytime soon. And, once those contracts do expire, the biggest question will be simple.
Where will The Revival go?
Earlier this month, a brand new professional wrestling company was introduced to the world: All Elite Wrestling. Led by former WWE star Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks, who have quite a history (at least online) with The Revival, The Elite are looking to “change the world” with AEW, and less than a month in, they have at least made the professional wrestling world very, very fun to pay attention to.
Obviously, the emergence of All Elite Wrestling promises to bring drama and suspense between AEW and the WWE. In terms of the financial aspects, I think it is safe to assume AEW will never catch up with Vince McMahon’s WWE. However, AEW will still have all the power to steal a few of WWE’s guys, and Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder could easily be two of those steals, while also dealing a huge blow to the WWE.
Am I saying that The Revival should continue to demand their release from WWE and simply move on to a brand new promotion that has not yet gotten off the ground? No.
Personally, I would love to see Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder remain with the biggest professional wrestling company in the entire world because I truly believe that is where they belong, even if the entirety of people that read this disagree with me. Sure, The Revival could easily jump ship to All Elite Wrestling and have the dream match with The Young Bucks while also making the same, or more, money that they make with WWE. I firmly believe if The Revival stuck around with WWE for the rest of 2019, I do believe their time will come.
Even if the WWE Universe and IWC does not want to admit it, the “new era” of WWE is actually working, even if nothing major has happened yet. We are now seeing Dawson and Wilder in the Tag Team Championship picture consistently because WWE has begun “listening to the fans”. Guys like Finn Balor, Apollo Crews, Mustafa Ali, and many others are now being showcased. Why? Because we as fans wanted them in top positions, and now they are starting to earn them. The Revival are not any different.
The January 21st edition of RAW saw Dawson and Wilder get another opportunity at the Tag Team Championships once again against the team of Bobby Roode and Chad Gable (another really solid tag team, in my opinion), after meeting backstage with Vince McMahon. It was a losing effort, but, it showed us that Vince wants to keep The Revival around because if he did not, why would he waste time doing an entire backstage segment with them? WWE is The Revival’s home and I can promise you that by the end of 2019, those red belts will be around the waist of those two southern proud boys.
I could sit here and tell you why The Revival should jump ship to AEW or any other promotion, but I will not. We as fans tend to overreact and even though The Revival have been in limbo ever since being called up to the main roster, they are now being showcased. And, with the “new era” in effect, I can virtually guarantee that The Revival will have their moment. They will reach their full potential. They will be champions.
Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder should stick around for another year because once they win those titles, it will all be worth it. Every single drop of blood, sweat, and tears The Revival have shed will all be worth it.
So, to top it all off with the main point, The Revival should not leave WWE because the “Top Guys” of the professional wrestling industry belong in the top promotion in the world.
