Hart Murmurs # 150 by Bruce Hart
Greetings. The new All Elite Wrestling (AEW) promotion will be having their long awaited second pay per view, this Saturday (August 31), from Chicago’s Sears Centre. As far as I can ascertain, the lineup is as follows:
Chris Jericho vs. Adam Page
Kenny Omega vs. Pac (Neville)
The Lucha Brothers vs. The Young Bucks
Cody Rhodes vs. Shawn Spears
Triple Threat: Joey Janella vs Jimmy Havoc vs. Darby Allin
Rino vs. Hikaru Shida
Womens Battle Royale
I’m not all that familiar with a number of the people on the card, nor, I suspect, are a lot of fans, however, from what I know, the Jericho & Page clash should be good, as well as the Young Bucks and the Lucha Brothers – as long as they don’t go overboard on over-choreographed high spots.
I’m also expecting a pretty decent match from Cody and Spears, as both have solid old school pedigrees, which they’ll hopefully put to good use.
It’s disappointing though that the match which the AEW had been hyping the most – former WWE star Dean Ambrose (now known as Jon Moxley) and rising star, Kenny Omega, has been cancelled because Moxley has apparently been injured. To be honest, I’m not really sure why they had Moxley booked to fight Omega in the first place, as there was no angle shot, ore was there any prevailing history between them, either.
It doesn’t help matters that Moxley’s replacement – Pac, has no discernible history or prevailing issues with Omega either. Both Omega and Neville are pretty dynamic, high intensity workers though and should hopefully be able to rise to the occasion when the chips are down.
While I’m confident that the AEW can and will become a viable counterpart to the WWE – which hasn’t been exactly setting the world on fire themselves lately, the AEW brass needs to be a lot more creative and logical in their matchmaking and booking if they’re going to succeed. Hopefully, once they get their own network television show and their creative department and the wrestlers start working out the kinks, things will improve.
We shall see.
On that note, I’ll call this a wrap but will look forward to catching up with you next time.
