PWP Nation’s Bruce Hart the seeming power struggle getting ready to take place in the coming weeks in WWE.
Greetings.
To all my fellow Canadians, I hope you had a happy Canada Day and to my many loyal American readers, I trust you had lots to celebrate on July 4th. I caught the WWE’s July 4th celebration on RAW, which began with damn near everyone on the roster, heel and face, male and female, engaging in an idiotic food fight, which was neither funny, nor entertaining.
I’m not sure what the point of that whole farcical fiasco was, other than to reduce the image of the WWE to about the same level as Curly, Larry and Moe. Beyond that, having all the heels and faces – many of whom are supposedly bitter rivals, assembled in the ring together, needlessly re-affirms that wrestling is all an illicit work that fans should refrain from taking seriously – which seems counter-productive as hell to me, given how many wrestlers invest their blood, sweat and tears into trying to make the fans take it at face value.
While some of the “smart marks” out there might argue that since Vinnie Mac, in his infinite wisdom, already acknowledged years ago that it’s all a pre-orchestrated work, I shouldn’t have any problem with them choosing to expose it as much as they want to. Having spent most of my life in the wrestling business and having taken all the variables into consideration, I still believe, unequivocally, that, just like people who go to church every Sunday, or Americans listening to Hillary or Donald, wrestling fans would be more than happy to take it at face value, if allowed to.
Unfortunately, the enlightened despots in Stamford seem to have this abiding propensity for insulting the fans’ intelligence and inviting derision and ridicule upon themselves with frivolous farce such as that.
Putting things into context, I sure as hell can’t envision LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers and Steph Curry and his Golden State Warrior teammates getting together prior to Game 7 of the NBA finals for a food fight or something along those lines.
Adding insult to injury, on the same RAW show, the WWE, for no explicable reason, chose to bring back Vicky Guerrero, to tease her returning to manage RAW or SmackDown.
I assume whomever came up with that brilliant idea, no doubt thought it was clever or amusing, but, coming on the heels of the food fight and some of the other ill-conceived nonsense that they’ve been inflicting on the fans lately, it served no good purpose and, in my humble estimation, only served as a reminder of how badly mismanaged RAW and SmackDown were the past few years – which, correct me if I’m wrong, was the very reason why Shane McMahon returned.
I have no idea, other than perhaps some illicit comic relief, why the WWE is even bothering to drag poor, hapless Vicky Guerrero and others out to tease them as supposed bosses of either RAW or SmackDown. Based on everything I’ve been given to believe, I thought it was already known that Shane – after all the trials and tribulations he was made to go through at the outset, was going to be managing RAW and that Stephanie and Hunter were presumably going to be overseeing the SmackDown operation and, with that already established, the next order of business would be the upcoming talent dispersal draft and whatever other aspects. I still assume that to be the case, so I can’t fathom why the hell the WWE would be choosing to confuse or disillusion the poor fans with irrelevant diversions and ill-conceived attempts at humor.
Far be it from me to be reminding and stressing to the powers that be in the WWE that the division of RAW and SmackDown, the Nelson Mandela like return of the prodigal son, Shane, the penultimate talent draft and all of that is extremely important in shaping the destiny of the WWE going forward.
As my brother Keith – who’s one of the most cerebral individuals I’ve known in the wrestling business, used to say: “carpe diem” – which means, seize the day – which is what the powers that be in the WWE need to do at this critical juncture. As a wrestling fan, first and foremost and one who still retains a great deal of passion and respect for the wrestling business, I sincerely hope that Vince, Shane, Stephanie, Hunter and whomever else is calling the shots, get it right.
In closing, I’d like to take this opportunity to express my sorrow and condolences to all Americans, for the turmoil, tragedy and tension you’ve been beset with the past few weeks. Hopefully, you shall overcome and there will ultimately be a light at the end of this seemingly dark tunnel. Hang in there, my friends.
