Greetings. As many of you know, my brother Smith has been battling cancer and, unfortunately, has now been placed in a hospice here in Calgary. This past weekend, on my syndicated Hart Beat Radio podcast, several of Smith’s closest wrestling comrades, including legends like Abdullah the Butcher, Terry Funk, Stan Hansen, Tiger Conway Jr. and the president of the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame, Cowboy Johnny Mantell all took time from the busy schedules to call in to share memories and extend heartfelt words of support and encouragement for Smith – which meant a great deal to him and their sincere show of love and support brought tears to his eyes (and mine, as well). The most touching and profound moment was a prayer led by Tiger Conway, Abby, which all the others joined in on, which was incredibly powerful and moved me and others in my family, who were listening, to tears.
On behalf of the Hart family, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Abby, Terry, Stan, Johnny and Tiger for the beautiful tribute – it speaks volumes about their character. I’d also like to express my appreciation to Hart Beat Radio producer, my dear friend Bob Johnson, for having lined up all the guests for the Smith Hart tribute show.
While I’m at it, I would also like to thank others from the wrestling brotherhood, including many of the superstars from the WWE, as well as many behind the scenes types as well, who were kind enough to send in their sincere wishes of support and empathy for Smitty – which, I know, meant a great deal to him and to others in our family.
Although it’s been a daunting and exceedingly difficult travail for Smith, we’ve all been inspired and moved with the incredible courage and dignity he’s shown and continues to show – it’s truly something to behold. In closing, I would like to also thank the countless wrestling fans from all over the world who have conveyed inspiring and touching words of encouragement and support for my brother. On behalf of my entire family, heartfelt thanks for your kindness and empathy.
On that note, I’ll call this abbreviated version of Hart Murmurs a wrap. Thank you for your ongoing support and God bless.
