Alien Invasions, they sure are a bitch.  Am I right?

It’s like when there’s a party and those people you don’t want to show up come anyway and as things wind down, you can’t get them to leave.

That’s kind of what it’s like in Invasion from Planet Wrestletopia

Only thing is: I don’t think I would mind this alien invasion so much.  See, because it’s just outright pandemonium in the streets right now. There’s just wrestlers fighting everywhere all the damn time. It’s like the 24/7 belt only global. I mean, could you imagine having to dodge elbow drops on the way to work? In the words of Jim Ross, “Oh Gawd No!”

The latest issue is titled “Two Peas in a Pot.” I don’t want to spoil it for you and give too much away if you haven’t read it, (and if you haven’t read any of the issues yet what the hell is the matter with you, brother! Go find those issues.)  but there’s some dealings a transpiring. Dick Drasin, the owner of AWF is in a bit of hot water. See Manifest Destiny, the galactic champ is still holding the earth hostage unless he gets a piece of Rory Landell, the self proclaimed galactic champ.

Only thing is no one knows where he is.

He isn’t in the AWF anymore so Drasin can’t find him.  But, it doesn’t really matter because according to Wrestletopian law, once a challenge is issued the title must be defended.  And there are some wrestlers who are not loyal to Manifest Destiny and would much rather grab the title for themselves.  Those wrestlers are part of a group called The New Zodiac Outlaws, and they would rather see their man, Sunny Jim Cooley become the next champ.  All they have to do is make sure Rory doesn’t show up for his match against Manifest Destiny, which sucks for him because now he has two factions of wrestlers coming for him.

I very much enjoyed this issue.  The relationship between Rory and Don, his manager, is great.  There is some really fun moments and dialogue between the two.  I also enjoyed the character development that is woven into the story.  We get to see an old friend of Rory’s in action named Macho, a Mexican wrestler.  His origin story is interesting and so is his fighting style.  And another sticking point to why this story is so entertaining is we get to see how having a steel cage surrounding the planet affects the political landscape.  So when the UN gets together do they discuss military strategy?   No.  They bicker over whose country has the better tag team.

Congratulations to Ed Kuehnel & Matt Entin on their writing and to Dan Schkade, David Hahn and Marissa Louise on their artwork.  The writing is top notch, the dialogue witty and a real pleasure to read.  The artwork is very clean and colorful.

It really depicts the feeling of what a world populated by wrestlers would look like.  Keep up the good work guys.  Oh and nice touch with the vintage wrestler profiles and fake ads at the end of the issue.  It really gives the book a real world feel.
