While the internet was a blaze Tuesday night with reports of an inevitable WWE return for Rey Mysterio, some clarity has started to develop as to what is going on with Rey and WWE.
According to various reports from places including PWInsider, Mysterio has been discussing a WWE return since the Royal Rumble. Triple H is the one who has been been in constant contact with Rey during these talks.
Rey has quite a few commitments lined up for the first half of 2018, which many thought would delay a return.
However with other talents in the past, it seems WWE would let Rey finish up and honor those commitments.
Despite reports claiming other wise, Rey was NOT at Smackdown Live finalizing his return and match with John Cena at WrestleMania.
Besides The Undertaker, apparently Cena pitched to work Wrestlemania with either Samoa Joe or Mysterio. So while he is on the list, he is not the list. (In my opinion, I’d say it’s still Undertaker, Joe despite the injury, and then Rey for Cena’s WM opponent.)
So while they are close, a deal is not complete yet.
IF a deal gets done, even if it is not with Cena, expect Rey to be positioned in a major way for WrestleMania.
