According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the current matches that are virtually locked in for WrestleMania 33 are the following: Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg, Triple H vs. Seth Rollins and Big Show vs. Shaquille O’Neal.
The report states that those matches listed above have been locked in by WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon and plans for all three of those feuds will happen at the big event, unless something drastic happens.
As for other potential matches, at this time, the Undertaker vs. John Cena is being discussed, but Vince McMahon is more inclined to bumping Cena for Roman Reigns, instead. Cena vs. Undertaker was scheduled for last year, but plans fell through when Cena needed shoulder surgery.
It’s believed that if Cena and/or Reigns leaves the Royal Rumble in San Antonio, Texas as a world champions, the Undertaker will likely challenge one or the other. There has been internal talk within the company of having the Undertaker enter and win the Royal Rumble, which would give him the option of either the WWE Universal Champion (which could be Reigns) and the WWE World Champion (which could be Cena). Vince is reportedly leaning toward Reigns because he feels like this can be a big moment for Reigns’ career and would help push the future of the company, whereas Cena is seen now as “on his way out.” At this time, Vince has not decided on which way he will go with the Undertaker, John Cena or Roman Reigns. The report did mention that Cena vs. Undertaker is still a possibility without a title at stake.
As for the current WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens, it appears that he will likely drop the title sooner rather than later. Many believe it’ll be at the Royal Rumble, where his best friend Chris Jericho will be suspended above the ring in a shark cage; it’s likely Jericho will cost Owens the title, which will spin off into a feud for Owens and Jericho leading into WrestleMania 33. On SmackDown LIVE, there is no word yet on if AJ Styles loses the World Title, who’d he spin off and face at WrestleMania 33.
Other matches being talked about is a potential triple threat match in the women’s division on Monday Night Raw between Bayley, Sasha Banks and WWE Raw Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair. But, it appears that Vince would rather go with a singles match for the Raw Women’s Title between Bayley and Charlotte Flair. Banks would then feud with Dana Brooke or Nia Jax.
So, based on this report, WrestleMania is shaping like the following:
- Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg (LOCKED)
- Big Show vs. Shaquille O’Neal (LOCKED)
- Triple H vs. Seth Rollins (LOCKED)
- John Cena or Roman Reigns vs. Undertaker (UNLOCKED)
- Kevin Owens vs. Chris Jericho (UNLOCKED)
- Bayley vs. Charlotte Flair (UNLOCKED)
Obviously, these plans are subject to change, especially with Vince McMahon running the show.
