We are saddened to hear the news that Mean Gene Okerlund has suddenly passed away at 76 years of age.
Mean Gene was a one of the most synonymous voices of professional wrestling in the 1980s & 1990s. Starting his run in wrestling in the AWA, it wasn’t long until he wound up side by side with good friend Hulk Hogan when they both went to the WWF around the same time.
He had an incredible run in WWE, providing the soundtrack for some of the most memorable moments in company history.
When Gene moved on to WCW, he also added legitimacy to the product; a soundtrack that wrestling fans were familiar with. He stood in the ring while fans showered the newly formed NWO with garbage from the audience.
