Miesha Tate will defend her bantamweight championship July 9 against Amanda Nunes at UFC 200.
Ariel Helwani first reported the news, and it was later confirmed on Wednesday’s episode of UFC Tonight.
Tate (18-5) defeated Holly Holm this past Match at UFC 196 via fifth-round rear-naked choke, extending her winning streak to five.
Nunes (12-4), meanwhile, has won three straight since losing to Cat Zingano at UFC 178 in September 2014. Most recently, “The Lioness” defeated Valentina Shevchenko via unanimous decision at UFC 196. Of Nunes’ 12 career victories, nine have come via TKO.
Tate vs. Nunes joins a UFC 200 card headlined by a rematch between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor. Also confirmed for the card are: Jim Miller vs. Takanori Gomi, Sage Northcutt vs. Enrique Marin, Diego Sanchez vs. Joe Lauzon, Gegard Mousasi vs. Derek Brunson, Johny Hendricks vs. Kelvin Gastelum, Cain Velasquez vs. Travis Browne, and Jose Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar for the interim featherweight title.
So happy Miesha won.
Ever since her fight with Pouty Rousey, when Miesha showed the class she has, and offered her hand to Rousey and Rousey wouldn’t shake it – I wanted to see her get back at Rousey.
Glad she did.
And I don’t miss Rousey one bit – hope she never comes back – she was white trash and her schtick got old.
She was bad for the division.
