PWP Nation’s Mike Roche takes a controversial view on Nikki Bella surpassing AJ Lee’s WWE Divas Championship record.
This past Monday on the go-home show of RAW leading into WWE Night of Champions this Sunday, Nikki Bella beat AJ Lee‘s record as the longest reigning divas champion of all time. So many people are so up in arms about Nikki beating AJ’s record, but I don’t get why? It’s not a real sports record. AJ Lee didn’t actually win any fights; she isn’t Ronda Rousey who’s legitmately undefeated. It’s all a storyline… so who cares?
For a division everyone claims is just one big “piss break“, people seem to be really passionate about this one topic. Why is that?
Is it because AJ Lee is that beloved? Don’t get me wrong. I was a huge AJ Lee fan, but do you really think she cares about the fact her record was broken? I don’t. The girl made her money and now she gets to enjoy the fruits of all her hard work and not be on the road all the time. She now gets to enjoy her new life, being married to CM Punk and watch him as he prepares for his entrance into UFC.
Could another reason be fans hate Nikki Bella and Brie Bella that much? I’ve never got this “Bella hate.” I’ve always been a fan of them. I thought they had huge potential to be ultra-bitch heels. I even remember being disappointed when they left WWE for a short time and being glad when they came back. Whether people want to acknowledge it or not, the Bella Twins are talented and if you really hate them that much… Nikki is the top heel in the divas division, you are supposed to hate her.
It can’t be because the John Cena hate train has reached such white hot levels that the hate has transferred to the girl he’s dating, right? Because that makes no sense. Brie is married to Daniel Bryan and people love Daniel Bryan and still hate Brie. What’s up with that?
At the end of the day, Nikki Bella being divas champion and beating AJ Lee’s record is the best thing for the divas division. It gives this so called, “Divas Revolution” something to fight for. It will make all these talented girls more competitive, it will give them a goal to strive for. Women like Paige, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch and Charlotte will want to knock off this so called “undeserving” Divas Champion and we’ll get some great matches in the process. It’s the pursuit of the Championship.
Isn’t that basic wrestling logic?
I don’t know how I feel about Nikki’s title run. It’s been lack-luster, but it hasn’t been bad really. It’s just kinda been… there. Nothing special, but nothing terrible.
I think them utilizing the record has NOTHING to do with AJ Lee, but more to do with building up whoever beats her, which looks like its going to be Charlotte.
Like they always say records are made to be broken. I think in keeping Nikki around, WWE talked her into this whole breaking the divas reign record.
Nikki has been getting better and better. I can’t say the same for Brie. There’s obviously a reason they keep her out of the ring as much as possible.
But, I’m glad AJ’s record was broken. She can take the piss.
