PWP’s Matthew Hollie believes that the current record breaking Divas Championship reign of Nikki Bella is getting stale. He explains in this analytical article.
Nikki Bella has broken AJ Lee‘s record for holding the WWE Divas Championship. This is just another example of how WWE is trying to stick it to AJ for her retirement. And once the Pro Wrestling Illustrated Female 50 comes out, she’ll be #1, and to most wrestling fans, that’s probably offensive.
But when it comes to holding on to a ladies championship the longest, look no further than the late Fabulous Moolah, who had held the WWE Women’s Championship for an astounding 10,700 days. To wrestling traditionalists, that means something.
I highly doubt that anybody on the Divas roster can break this record, even Nikki.
My fellow columnist Oliver Norgrove says that this stunt is out of spite, and I have to agree with him. I respect what she has done in the ring, but this reign is about company pride and nothing more. While others tend to dismiss her skills in the ring, it’s the nature of the business and the fans have every right to an opinion of the lady.
This reign is about pride of the company, not about respect. While I can say that Nikki does not have the skill-set to be great, my opinion is that she has an ability to be the best in her craft, no matter what. Fans may crucify me for saying those things, but if that is the way to be professional, even towards your fellow co-workers, so be it. Wrestling is very serious business but it doesn’t mean it can’t be fun.

While the fans can still say the Divas Revolution is an absolute joke, I say give it time to rebound from this setback, because this opportunity can get even more interesting as we go along. The biggest chance we might see is Nikki’s reign week end at some point, probably at Night of Champions when she faces Charlotte for the title.
That loss will satisfy some fans a bit, but will it heal the wounds that WWE has caused? Probably not at this point, but remember this is a marathon and not a sprint. The WWE has stuck it to us fans for this display, but at the end of the day, it’s all about company pride.
With this reign, it proved that Nikki’s reign is getting a lot stale at this point, because this is getting duller and duller as we speak. I hope Charlotte can pull the plug on the stale title reign once and for all so that we can’t hear about Nikki Bella making it another week as Divas Champion. While she may make it to 300 days as a champion, it is making fans a bit sick with this one. While this article is not made to be smarky nor does it bash the WWE at all, I think it is a bit thought provoking and a way to get this over with other wrestling fans.
If Nikki Bella holds on to the gold one more week, it’s going to be a problem with the audience. If this keeps up, the complaints will go through the roof. If it was me, I’ll be upset, but at least I won’t be the only one complaining about this story. It’s only a matter of time before this storyline gets duller and duller. Probably by this Sunday.
Let’s just cross our fingers for that one.
But why has it gone stale? I think it has less to do with the Bellas and more to do with her competition before the last month or so and WWE’s commitment to the women on the main roster.
Being a heel in a dominantly heel division is part of the problem I think. Look at the women’s roster (excluding NXT) and Nikki doesn’t have enough competition to go from opponent to opponent to keep the reign fresh. The same result every month can subsist if the defeated (even if the opponent is some very low level opponent of the month) is at least different imo
I disagree Matt that Nikki needs to drop the belt anytime soon… So the fans are mad she’s champion, good. Nikki is a heel. She’s given this audience who has never cared about the divas division a reason to care. I hope she holds the title going in to WrestleMania. Good article though Matt even though we have different opinions. I particularly enjoyed you bringing up Moolah’s record.
I can honestly say that the impatience of the fans is the reason why there is heat on Nikki Bella for breaking AJ Lee’s record. While I personally appreciate the feedback, the fact still remains that it’s getting stale and its getting ugly real fast.
Wake me up when she either loses the belt out she’ll make it to 715 days.
