Last night on WWE Monday Night RAW, we found out that Braun Strowman was taken out of his match with Brock Lesnar at WWE Royal Rumble for the Universal Title due to not being cleared in time for the pay-per-view.
Strowman was replaced by Finn Balor, who won a Fatal 4-Way match on RAW to earn the opportunity, beating out John Cena, Drew McIntyre and Baron Corbin.
Since that news, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Brock Lesnar really wants to work with Finn Balor and has for quite some time.
The report claims that Lesnar has wanted to work with Balor since last year’s Royal Rumble, but it was Vince McMahon who was not sold on Balor in that spot at the time. The match later turned into a triple threat including Strowman and Kane.
The report states that Lesnar prefers to work with smaller guys like AJ Styles, Daniel Bryan and now, Finn Balor.
Meltzer also notes that Finn Balor vs. Brock Lesnar was always the plan, and that Strowman vs. Lesnar was a smokescreen to move tickets. That claim has been refuted by other outlets, so it’s unclear if this was actually the plan from the beginning.
