According to multiple reports, current NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa is scheduled for neck surgery within the next week. Ciampa has been dealing with the undisclosed injury for a while and had originally planned to take care of it after Takeover New York. The injury is expected to keep Ciampa out of action from 6 to 14 months.
However it appears after the last set of NXT tapings that the injury was discovered to be worse than it was originally thought to be.
Ciampa’s last main roster appearance was on the stage on Raw during the Ric Flair celebration. Ciampa was already pulled from a March appearance for World League Wrestling.
As far as the NXT Championship goes, NXT has the next few weeks of TV taped, and there is an angle shot that could explain the injury. As of this time there is no word what the plan will be for the championship.
