Last week, we reported on a story that WWE was interested in bringing Rey Mysterio back to the company. In the same report, it was speculated that Global Force Wrestling was also interested in the services of Mysterio.
Sports Illustrated is reporting that WWE is no longer interested. Apparently, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon has soured on the idea due to Mysterio’s representation: Konnan.
A little backstory: Konnan was Max Moon during a brief WWE run in 1991-1992. He had the idea for the character, convinced Vince to finance the suit (reportedly costing $13,000) & realized shortly thereafter that he would have more success continuing his career in Mexico.
McMahon is apparently still hot over this & shut down talks about bringing back Mysterio because of it. Personally, I find it hard to believe. It’s probably a timing issue of some sort.
However, GFW is still very interested. They would likely want Mysterio to be at the top of the card making main event caliber money. There’s no word on whether or not Mysterio is considering or has been issued any type of offer.
