Early Sunday morning, Shelton Benjamin announced that he would not be returning to WWE programming any time soon. In the last few weeks on SmackDown LIVE, the company has been promoting his return.
But according to Benjamin, he will not be returning due to a shoulder injury that has emerged, which requires surgery. It’s being said that this came about during Benjamin’s competitor physical that is required by all wrestlers before being signed by WWE.
Here are a number of tweets made by Shelton on this situation:
I am both disappointed & sadden to announce that due to a serious injury to my shoulder I will not be returning to @WWE at this time.

For now I will have to put pro-wrestling to the side as I prepare to undergo surgery to repair my torn rotator.

This comes as a shock to me as i am no stranger to performing while in pain yet I had no idea of the severity of my condition

Thank you @WWE for helping me discover this situation & for giving me an opportunity to return. I will be back

The good news from this is that it appears that once this injury is taken care of, there’s a good chance that WWE brings Shelton Benjamin in.

That’s assuming the shoulder injury isn’t career threatening. Benjamin’s not young anymore.
