The WWE has joined the rest of the world in providing great Women’s Wrestling. This is the time that you want to be a Women’s wrestler. Goodbye to the quick 4-minute matches that have no point, hello Women’s wrestling!
The Women’s roster is deeper than it has ever been and you can bet your ass that WWE will continue to stockpile Women Wrestlers from the Indy Scene. Here are the women that everyone should be keeping their eye on.
Santana Garrett
“The Midwest Sweetheart” has been used in some NXT matches but hasn’t officially signed with WWE. Santana Garrett is athletic and an attractive young lady with some flashy moves and a good amount of natural charisma. At first I thought Santana was best suited as a smiling, fan-friendly babyface, but her work in TNA as crazy-chick Brittany – though sadly cut short – showed that she’s more versatile than just that.
She’s recently been having a great run on the Indys, collecting belts in multiple organizations simultaneously. Garrett has been trolling the fans over the past couple months of her possibly being Sister Abigail. Having already played a character similar in TNA, it would be very interesting to see her paired up with The Wyatt Family.
Whether it be with them or not, she’ll get another shot at the big time sooner rather than later.
Ivelisse
Over the past year and a half, the Former Tough Enough Competitor has truly showed she is one of the best in the world. Being a part of Lucha Underground, the dark unique show has brought out a side in her that we haven’t really seen before.
Being alongside Angelico and her on-screen romantic interest Son of Havoc, Ivelisse managed to earn the inaugural Lucha Underground Trios Championship (and is the first woman in the organization to hold a title). We have seen her compete in intergender matches and has without a doubt for held her own. The match against Mil Muertes is a prime example of her showing off her skills.
Unlike many other Women out there, Ivelisse uses her toughness and MMA background to provide some awesome moments. I see plenty of big things for her in the future. Ivelisse’s only concern going forward is whether or not she can avoid the injury but I fully expect her to be given another shot with WWE in the not too distant future.
Taeler Hendrix
Hendrix is one of best active heels in American women’s wrestling with a great look and en excellent understanding of how to play her character, as well as an underrated ring worker who has noticeably improved from her early days.
After what was supposed to be a promising start in TNA, Taylor Hendrix now factors to be a ROH prospect whose star is on the rise for them instead. After breaking through in the Northeastern American Indy feds (which included a cup of coffee with ROH), Hendrix caught on in the OVW (which was TNA’s development system); where she found herself to be a three-time OVW Women’s Champion. However, her exposure at the TNA level was limited to enhancement talent appearances where Hendrix was made to look the other wrestlers look better.
Once TNA’s link with OVW was severed, Hendrix found herself honing her craft on the American Indy scene. Now that Hendrix’s shored up in ROH (due to their love of redheads), she’s managed to catch on with the House of Truth and factors to be a crucial component of ROH’s “Women of Honor” going forward.
A lot of people don’t know that Hendrix has actually been on NXT and WWE television. She was often used as one of Adam Rose‘s “Rosebuds”. This could mean that it’s only a matter of time before she is in NXT full time.
Candice LeRae
I absolutely love Candice LaRae. Don’t let her looks fool you; this cutie is actually one tough lady. Over the past few years she has been proving herself as a top-flight Indy talent in matches as both a singles and tag wrestler and against both male and female opponents.
Her size and high-flying skill make her an ideal underdog babyface, she has shown that she’s more than capable of hanging with top talents like the Young Bucks, and she isn’t afraid to get hardcore when the situation calls for it. Her tag team with Joey Ryan has become one of the more in-demand Indy acts. Her dedication of pushing the boundaries may well lead to her going down as one of the most important women’s wrestling figures of our time, regardless of whether or not she goes to the WWE.
Best of all, she’s not afraid to take a hard bump, something not all of the women out there can honestly say. Some people have said that she is sloppy when it comes to wrestling other women but given time in NXT, Sara Del Rey could help fix that negative opinion on her. If I had one-dream women’s match right now, it would be LeRae against Sasha Banks. If you think you have seen amazing wrestling matches, this one would blow your mind.
Evie
Evie wrestles mostly for IPWNZ and PWWA but also makes trips to the US to compete in SHINE and SHIMMER. The past few years have been a great time for Evie as she’s traveled to Japan and became the Interim PWWA Champion.
Evie is one of the most athletic wrestlers you’ll ever seeing. No, I am not kidding! Her speed combined with confidence allows her to hold nothing back. She has a knack for getting over with any crowd. If you are looking for the next Bayley, look no further.
With Australians Emma, Peyton Royce and Billie Kay already in WWE and NXT it only makes sense for them to add a New Zealander to the mix. She’s a star quickly on the rise and another one of those Women who has been in some of those quick NXT matches to get over other women. I would love to see “The Four Horsewomen” in a rivalry against the Australians and Evie.
It would be something that we have not seen before, especially in this “new” era of Women’s Wrestling.
Kay Lee Ray
Kay Lee Ray is one of the top talents in Scotland right now. Only being 22 years old she has achieved such a high that at such a young age. She’s very exciting to watch in the ring with mainly highflying wrestling but she can also take it to the mat as well. I feel that Kay will get over easily anywhere because of how unique she is with her wrestling and personality.
The Charisma is there and even though we don’t know anything about her mic skills, it seems like all of her other talents could make up for that. She is another recognizable face as she took part in Nia Jax‘s debut match. Ray is definitely a female talent to watch out for.
