Check out the new NXT logo!

What an absolute mess. This ushers in a new era of NXT, which will be much different from the last 7-8 years that many of us have been accustomed to.

From the moment I started to follow NXT as a standalone brand, I became a fan. It was different than what we were seeing in wrestling at the time.

We had a brand that mixed veterans with green as grass rookies, while catering to a segment of the fanbase that may not have been happy with the ongoings of RAW & Smackdown.

I’ll never forget the excitement for the first NXT Takeover event on the WWE Network. I will look back fondly at the live event I attended in Philadelphia in 2015 when The Demon Finn Balor wrestled Kevin Owens in the main event and a locker room clearly melee took place to end the show.

I won’t diminish the memories of sitting in a JAM PACKED Barclays Center for the first NXT Takeover: Brooklyn where I saw one of the best live matches I’ve ever seen: When Bayley defeated Sasha Banks to become the new NXT Women’s Champion.

I’ve been to close to 10 NXT live events, including one in Asbury Park, New Jersey when Finn Balor and Sami Zayn had a hilarious bit to close the show. Also, Alexa Bliss and Asuka had a SUPER physical match where Alexa got potato’d at least twice. After tapping out to the Asuka Lock, she rolled out of the ring and stormed to the back…obviously pissed.

I don’t know, man. This just doesn’t feel like good news to me. There has obviously been weeks of news that Vince McMahon is taking a more “hands on” approach to NXT, which is also WWE’s developmental program.

This new, neon vomit looking logo just doesn’t scream “cool” or “badass” to me. It screams “woke.” It screams “mainstream.”

I hate it. I really held NXT in high regard; not just for the fact that they used Slipknot, who has badass music, to tell the stories of personal conflict that has built the brand. They had that ECW vibe a lot of the time when it came to music, story-telling and personal rivalries. That is as good as gone most likely.

But hey, it’s just a logo, right? I shouldn’t “freak out, man!”

I’m not freaking out. I don’t freak out over professional wrestling anymore, but I enjoy talking about it, writing about it, analyzing it, etc. I’ve only been doing it for over a decade, brooooo. Something like this ain’t new to me.

I have a bad feeling about what the future of this brand holds. I think we will see an overhaul of the trainers at NXT eventually; the same way we are seeing an overhaul of the wrestlers down in Florida.

It’s a new era…A NEW GENERATION for WWE NXT brand.

Only time will tell how this plays out, but I’m here for it as I’m sure you will be as well!
