During All Elite Wrestling’s “Double or Nothing” weekend, news broke on a potential WWE/NJPW relationship.
Over the course of the weekend, many rumors were floating around and a source who was in Jacksonville provided a few details about what they heard. According to our source, there are talks happening between WWE and New Japan Pro Wrestling.
This is undeniable. Too much smoke for there not to be a fire. While there are talks, nothing is close and most of it pertains around one specific wrestler.
Allegedly, WWE VP Nick Khan has Vince McMahon’s full blessing to make a deal. Khan is quickly getting Kevin Dunn type trust from Vince.
Tony Khan was blindsided. His “promo” Friday was a work and was also kind of a “everything is fine” while the house is burning down type thing.
Besides Daniel Bryan working for both, there is a plan atleast tossed around that would have a cross brand show in the U.S. and one in Japan. The biggest issue right now is travel and restrictions.
There was an end to the Forbidden Door angle planned for later this year. If it happens by the end of the summer then expect the WWE/NJPW deal to be announced right after
There were some quietly blaming Tony Khan for NJPW even speaking to WWE. The feeling is while people understand Tony protecting his talent and company, that he does not understand that there needs to be give and take in these type of relationships. A phrase I over heard this weekend was, if this deal happens, the next promo Tony cuts will need to be on himself.
Last thing, some AEW talents want the deal to happen. They feel there is a ton of good talent on the roster not being used because of the cross overs.
At this time this is all speculation. However, there are several factors that point to there being some substance to the rumors or discussions between both companies.
