After an 18-month hiatus, PWP Nation’s Crazy Bill Shannon has returned to talk about five possible Royal Rumble match surprise entrants.
I’d like to apologize for my absence, but I was busy with school and moving across the country, but here I am! WWE TLC just ended at the time of this writing and while we have RAW’s Roadblock to get through, I’m already excited for the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.
While the Rumble is the official mile marker for the road to WrestleMania, I’m not as anxious to see who will win and main event WrestleMania as I have been in the past. Instead, I’m overly excited for the surprises during the Royal Rumble match. Sure, we’ll see Goldberg and Brock Lesnar, but we already know that’s not a shocker. Allow me though, to run across five ideas that would be a fun surprise. Some absurd, some possible, some so crazy that make prefect sense.
#5. Undertaker
People keep talking about AJ Styles vs. The Undertaker and it would make sense to start that story with Undertaker trying to win the Royal Rumble match. It could start an AJ ego trip where he calls out Taker for a title match at WrestleMania, which will end with the Undertaker losing.
#4. Carlito
Look, if you’re reading this you’re an old enough mark, like me, and you would freak out to hear his catch line and music. RAW is the home of his younger brother and cousin, the Shining Stars. How sweet would it be, even if for only one night, he returned to eliminate both of them? It’d be pretty sweet.
#3. John Cena
Clearly Cena is phasing himself out and is testing the waters in TV/movies. But why not return at the rumble and start a feud, win or lose, to pass the torch in Orlando? It makes perfect sense. Shawn Michaels to ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan to The Rock, Triple H to John Cena and Randy Orton. 2017 is the year for Cena to return, full time, and pass that torch to the likes of AJ Styles, Dean Ambrose or someone else like Samoa Joe.
#2. Nia Jax
There’s 6 weeks before the Royal Rumble. Nia Jax could easily be built to be an entrant into the Rumble match. Jax would be the first Female to enter since Beth Phoenix. She has no chance to win, but it would be an awesome moment. Besides, RAW really needs to focus on more women than Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks; they’ve been failing where Smackdown is succeeding in that respect.
#1. Shawn (freakin’) Michaels
Everyone is talking about Undertaker vs. AJ Styles, but we’ve seem to forget that the Royal Rumble is in San An-freaking-tonio! That’s HBK’s turf! I wouldn’t expect a win from him, but it would be a mark out moment, for sure and just like Taker, it would prompt AJ and his ego to call out the old timer, the supposed “has-been.”
