In the latest of the Complete Series of the Grandest Stage, PWP’s JCD reviews and recaps WrestleMania 10.
Wrestlemania X was held on March 20th 1994, from New York’s Madison Square Garden, which hosted WrestleMania 1. It was the first WrestleMania without Hulk Hogan on the card. It was a WrestleMania that saw feuds end, new stars arise, and new direction became evident. With that said, let’s look at the card from top to bottom.
Owen Hart defeated Bret Hart.
Owen turned on Bret at the ’94 Rumble. The match which seemed like a no-brainer, but actually came about from Hart losing the coin toss to Lex Luger to see who would get the first shot at Yokozuna. (More on this later). A good back and forth match, which saw Owen roll up Bret for the surprise 1-2-3. Owen was made an instant star.
In an end to their feud, Bam Bam Bigelow and Luna Vachon defeated Doink and Dink.
In a falls count anywhere match, Randy “Macho Man” Savage finally defeated Crush. The feud came about after Crush blamed Savage for injuries he sustained in a match with Yokozuna. After chasing each other during Survivor Series and the Royal Rumble, they finally collided at Wrestlemania. This would sadly be Savage’s final Wrestlemania appearance.
In a WWF Women’s title match, soon to be WWE Hall of Famer, Alundra Blaze defeated Lelani Kai to retain the title.
Men on a Mission defeated WWF Tag Team Champions The Quebecers by count out. These two teams would trade title wins on the upcoming European tour.
WWF Champion Yokozuna defeated Lex Luger by DQ. This was the first WWF Title match of the night. Luger and Hart were named co winners of the Royal Rumble match. So instead of a three way match, both men would receive WWF Title matches. Luger was up first and got DQ’d for “pushing” guest referee Mr. Perfect. Sadly the Luger/Perfect feud never went anywhere as Perfect left the WWF shortly after Wrestlemania.
In a complete 35 second squash, Earthquake defeated Adam Bomb in a match that was more about Harvey Whipplemen and Howard Finkel.
In a Wrestlemania and televised first, Shawn Micheals faced Razor Ramon in a ladder match to determine the Undisputed Intercontinental Champion. Micheals was the IC champ until he was “suspended” and stripped of the title. (There was a rumored failed drug test). A battle royal was held and Ramon and Rick Martel faced off to determine a new champ. Razor won the title; HBK would return and laid claim to the title he never lost. The match was set, and HBK and Razor tore the house down. Razor would eventually win the match and lay claim to be the undisputed IC Champion.
In the main event, WWF Champion Yokozuna faced Bret Hart in a Wrestlemania 9 rematch. With Roddy Piper as the special ref, Hart would regain the title. As Hart was celebrating, Owen Hart would reemerge and state down Bret. These two would face off the entire summer of 94 for the WWF title.
