PWP Contributor Derron Browning gives his reasons on why the Hell in a Cell encounter between Brock Lensar & The Undertaker is thew way to go instead of WrestleMania 32 as many suspected.
Through the past thirteen years, we’ve seen Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker engage in some of the most brutal wars in the WWE’s history. Since the renewal of their rivalry last year, it hasn’t been any different. As much as WWE wants to fill up AT&T stadium with Brock Lesnar facing The Undertaker, I personally think it shouldn’t happen… at least not at WrestleMania. In this article, I will give you an alternate suggestion for when this feud to conclude as well as other opponents for them to face on the “Granddaddy of them All.”
Now at SummerSlam, we’ve all seen the controversial end to Brock Lesnar and Undertaker’s match that was “Too big for WrestleMania.” We all know this is going to lead to an obligatory third match but I don’t see why we should wait eight months just to see it. My suggestion is that the third and final battle should happen in October! You may ask yourself: “Why October?”
As we all know, WWE is doing a live special from Madison Square Garden which will feature Lesnar. I don’t see why WWE can’t have Lesnar and Heyman stay around the entire month to hype up the final encounter against The Undertaker.
Also, October hosts the Hell in a Cell PPV. October will mark the thirteen year anniversary that Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker fought inside the Cell. Instead of waiting until WrestleMania to have another possible Cell match, why not have both men close out the show once again at Hell in a Cell to see once and for all who the better man is?
Now, I get that Undertaker’s health plays a huge role on whether he can make an appearance, but judging from what I saw at SummerSlam, he looks great and I don’t think another match this year will hurt him.
I ask all of you this question: Since Hell in a Cell became a pay-per-view in 2009, when was there a time the matches that took place in the Cell, warranted the Cell? If you guessed “None”, you’re correct.
The Hell in a Cell is supposed to be the final battle of a long-running blood feud, not just another cage match, like it’s been the past few years.
Since WWE has this Hell in a Cell match as a yearly thing, why not use it like it was originally intended to not just give the concept match meaning but also the pay-per-view itself?
Now, you may wonder “Where do they go from here?” Here are my suggestions: First, have Brock Lesnar return at the first RAW of the year. Paul Heyman can write off The Undertaker getting his win because Lesnar simply just got tired of beating him and he’s on to bigger and better things. Heyman can say “It’s a new year and Brock Lesnar is back for one purpose: to win the championship he never lost. My client is entering himself in the Royal Rumble match!”
Now, since Brock is undefeated at the Royal Rumble PPV and he’s a beast, what I would do is put him at #1. Yes, have him be the #1 entrant going into the Rumble and have the story be “The Beast” fighting the world to get one closer to what is actually his. When the smoke clears, Lesnar wins the Rumble for a 2nd time to face the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins. This time, he has no one standing in his way of getting what he wants. When WrestleMania 32 concludes, Brock Lesnar ends the year-long reign of Seth Rollins as WWE Champion.
What would be next for The Undertaker is for him to face the only big name he’s yet to face at WrestleMania, John Cena. Cena, at this point is bullet-proof and has done everything in WWE, except defeat the Undertaker at WrestleMania. The last time, Cena and Undertaker feuded was during Cena’s days as a rising star on the SmackDown roster in 2003. This was also during the time the Undertaker wrestled on a regular basis. The angle can simply start by the Undertaker announcing that WrestleMania 32 will be his Last Ride.
Cena comes out and challenges him and says “You and I go way back, it was you, whom after my first match in the company, gave me a pat on the back. Our careers have paralleled since then, headlining WrestleMania after WrestleMania. How about you have your last WrestleMania against me?” and lays down the challenge. Undertaker accepts and shakes Cena’s hand, only for Cena to lay him out with an AA, turning Cena heel, only temporarily like HBK in 2005 to get the feud going.
Now, I know the phrase ”card subject to change” and I know nothing is set in stone for WrestleMania 32. I may not be a writer for a long-running television show but I feel my suggestion gives you two marquee matches that will help fill up AT & T Stadium as opposed to just one. Also, I strongly believe that two special attractions like The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar should lose at WrestleMania because there is nothing for either man to gain. Do you all agree?
