On his 42nd birthday, former UFC Champion and MMA legend Tito Ortiz defeated Chael Sonnen via submission in 2:03 of the first round at Bellator MMA 170.
Ortiz , with a record of 19-12-1 going into tonight, shot for a single leg takedown early, but Sonnen managed to work Ortiz into a guillotine choke. Ortiz escaped, got Sonnen’s back and won with a rear-naked choke.
After the fight, Ortiz said:
“I’m happy I was able to do this, and I’m so happy I was able to do this in my hometown.”
After the bout, Ortiz had his son, Jacob, place his gloves on the mat to symbolize his retirement. Ortiz finished with a 3-1 record in his Bellator run.
