During an NXT live event last year, Austin Aries suffered an orbital fracture, which came when former NXT Champion Shinsuke Nakamura struck Aries with his running knee and has been out of action since November of 2016.

Well, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Austin Aries has been medically clear to compete. Also, it’s being said that there is internal talk within WWE which would put Austin Aries up against Neville for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship at WrestleMania 33 as a top featured match. WWE officials have been reportedly very impressed with Aries in his current role as a color announcer and interviewer.

Nothing has been decided, obviously, but at this time, Aries vs. Neville seems to be where WWE is headed with the Cruiserweight division for WrestleMania. Originally, many speculated that the CW’s would have a multi-man ladder match, similar to what we’ve seen with the Intercontinental Championship the last several WrestleManias.

Obviously, take this report with a grain of salt, as plans change constantly during WrestleMania season.

  1. Plan can change. We’ve learned that with every PPV, especially WrestleMania.
I would kill to see Aries vs Neville, but they are both top notch as heels.

I would expect Neville to be the King while Aries takes the role of the savior.

I think it would be a top notch match that no one else in the division could deliver at the grandest stage of them all!

  2. That’s the problem with WWE, Aries could be a major contender on Smackdown for the heavyweight title. He’s way too talented to be stuck with the irrelevant cruiserweight division.
