As we noted earlier this week, it was reported by the New York Post that WWE placed a bid to buy TNA Impact Wrestling.
Well in an update by Dave Meltzer on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, he revealed that the bid is in fact a real offer coming from WWE, but WWE isn’t really in the running to buy the company.
Billy Corgan, the current TNA President, has already put in more money to get 30% ownership than WWE is willing to offer to get the entire package. As far as the sale of TNA goes, Dave Meltzer says it’s between Corgan and a second party he’s possibly interested in buying the company together with.
Meltzer also stressed that the company currently doesn’t have any funding for tapings past October 2nd, which is their biggest show of the year, “Bound for Glory.” So, Meltzer believes that if Corgan is going to buy the company, it has to be very soon or the company must find funding for the tapings elsewhere, if possible. Corgan is hoping to buy the company by October 2nd.
As for WWE, it was said that they solely want TNA for the tape library alone to add to the WWE Network, considering they now employ several past TNA stars like the WWE World Champion AJ Styles, Austin Aries, Bobby Roode, Samoa Joe, TJ Perkins and others. So unless Corgan and other parties drop out completely, it appears WWE will not be purchasing TNA anytime soon.
