According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there have been many discussions within WWE about banning the use of the ‘Styles Clash,’ which is the finishing maneuver used by newly acquired superstar AJ Styles. When Styles was first brought in, Vince McMahon apparently didn’t know right away about the injuries that the move has caused to other wrestlers, like Yoshi Tatsu, who suffered a broken neck taking the move.
So, for that reason, that’s why WWE decided to make the ‘Calf Crusher,’ Styles’ official finishing move. According to the Observer, during the Jericho/Styles match at WWE Fastlane, Chris Jericho pushed for the move to be used in their match. So going forward, the move isn’t exactly banned, but it will not be used at a high volume and only used on a limited basis.
Further indication that the ‘Styles Clash’ isn’t banned, here’s a tweet from AJ Styles on the matter:
Who said the styles clash was banned?
