Speculation is running rampant online this morning after a report came out last night by Twitter user @TheBradShepard that Vince McMahon has plans to relaunch the XFL. We don’t know how reputable of a source Shepard is, but he seems to have broken something potentially big for the sports & entertainment world. Not saying he’s not reputable, but I’ve never seen him before.
Check out the tweet:
EXCLUSIVE: Vince McMahon is looking to bring back the XFL and may announce it on January 25th, 2018.

Shepard didn’t have much more information than that. However, after doing a little research on the story, Twitter user @FirstRowBrian confirmed that he has heard the same a few months back.
It’s true. I said it a few months back. I wasn’t joking. https://t.co/zBR4hVGxhf

Deadspin writer David Bixenspan (@DavidBix) then went to WWE for confirmation on the report, but received a response back that didn’t give a ton of information on the XFL, but did uncover some interesting news on where this news may come from:
A WWE spokesperson issued the attached statement to me & @Deadspin in response to my inquiry about tonight’s rumors of a soon to be announced XFL revival. They declined further comment. Whatever Vince McMahon’s “Alpha Entertainment” is, it’s self-funded & separate from WWE. pic.twitter.com/oT0Oxyi2fV

So to break this down: Vince McMahon is starting a company outside of WWE called “Alpha Entertainment” that will invest into a variety of sports & entertainment projects, which could very well include the revival of the XFL. This could also mean that WWE is moving the XFL brand & trademark to “Alpha Entertainment” for use in the distant future; possible merchandising, etc. There’s not much more information than this, but it is a very interesting development.
Does it mean that Vince may step away from WWE to take on this new venture? HIGHLY unlikely, but I guess only time will tell.
