According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the WrestleMania 34 main event has been reportedly set by WWE officials and they seem to have a long-term goal in mind.
It’s being said that Vince McMahon, at this moment, wants WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans on April 8, 2018 to be headlined and main evented by Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship. Meltzer obviously noted that plans could change and that he isn’t exactly sure on how they’ll get there, but he’s been told that Lesnar vs. Reigns is the end-game.
Meltzer notes that McMahon’s goal is to crown Reigns as the next John Cena and wanted to have that take place at WrestleMania 31, but they obviously went a different route with Seth Rollins cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase. The plan is to once again build for a year and have the big coronation at WrestleMania. The idea between now and then is for Reigns to be the face, not just when he wins the title, but to fully replace John Cena as the lead babyface of the company.
Meltzer noted that he doesn’t know if Lesnar will have a year long title run or if they’ll find a way to get the title back on him in time for WrestleMania 34. He also notes that he doesn’t think WWE even knows the journey to this match, but states that this is the goal.
