On Monday afternoon before Raw, WWE announced that the first inductee into the 2017 WWE Hall of Fame will be former World Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle.
This news comes after weeks of speculation about Angle’s involvement in the 2017 Royal Rumble match. Angle has been away from WWE since 2005 and had spent years working in TNA Impact Wrestling.
It was reported in 2016 that WWE and Kurt Angle were in talks about doing some kind of return, but there were no details in what fashion. Angle was reportedly telling independent promotions that he would be returning to the company and would not be taking bookings for the first half of the new year.
Angle is the first to be officially announced, but other names that have been rumored are Rick Rude, Diamond Dallas Page, William Regal and others.
