Last week, it was reported that WWE was interested in purchasing TNA, presumably for the purpose to get their tape library which contains footage of current WWE/NXT stars Austin Aries, Bobby Roode, Eric Young, Samoa Joe, and WWE World Champion AJ Styles.
The offer was originally described as an option if no other parties purchase the company. Dave Meltzer noted on this morning’s episode of Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE is back at the table, and Dixie Carter has the right to sell to whoever she wants.
Reportedly, TNA is almost out of time, and despite seeming like a formality, reports state that there is still no deal for Billy Corgan to purchase the company. Corgan needs to make a deal to fund this Sunday’s Bound For Glory and next week’s TV tapings by Friday as it’s the last business day before Sunday’s Bound For Glory pay-per-view.
According to Meltzer, WWE’s main goal is acquiring the tape library and they’d more than likely keep a handful of talents, there would be no plan to keep TNA as a brand going forward.
