According to Forbes, WWE has reached out to many former past main event caliber WWE Superstars about a possible return to the company in anticipation of the upcoming WWE Brand Split. With Smackdown going live, the feeling is that WWE needs more star power for the launch of this new venture.
The report stated that WWE has reached out to Kurt Angle, Rey Mysterio, Goldberg, Jeff Hardy and other “40+ year old” athletes. Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer also tweeted about this:
WWE just realized they have to fill two rosters, calling lots of 40+ year old guys to return for the new era.

Dave also went on record stating that Jeff Hardy & Rey Mysterio are under contract to TNA & Lucha Underground respectively and he doesn’t expect them to come into WWE anytime soon. There’s also speculation that WWE may have reached out to John Morrison, JTG, Shad Gaspard, Carlito, MVP, Shelton Benjamin and others.
There’s no confirmation on whether or not WWE has even reached out to ANY of these athletes, but it would make sense if they had. With a “New Era” currently in full swing, it would be an interesting storyline initiative to bring in some older WWE Superstars to fight off the New Era…so to speak.
